🛁 Goodbye Tub, Hello Big Shower

This bathroom originally featured a massive jacuzzi soaker tub that dominated the entire space. Over the years, the family’s habits shifted away from long baths and more toward quick, functional showers. As a result, the tub had become less of a luxury and more of an inconvenience — taking up valuable square footage without offering any real benefit.

Removing it opened up an entirely new layout. By capturing the footprint of the old tub, we were able to introduce a larger, more comfortable shower without the room feeling cramped. In fact, the transformation had the opposite effect: the bathroom actually feels bigger and more open.

More and more homeowners are opting to eliminate tubs during their renovations to reclaim space and improve usability. And for this family, the decision felt like a natural next step in creating a bathroom that matched their lifestyle.

🚿 Fixing the Past, Building for the Future

This bathroom was originally built as part of a home addition completed over 20 years ago — and it showed its age. The existing shower was suffering from a common but serious issue: the backboard had been absorbing moisture for years. By the time we stepped in, it was deteriorating, the tiles were failing, and mold had begun to grow both on the surface and behind the walls.

The homeowners came to us with a clear vision. They wanted a bathroom that respected the heritage and character of their Fergus home while offering modern-day reliability, durability, and comfort. That meant taking the room back to a clean slate.

We stripped the space down to the drywall, removing all moldy and damaged materials to ensure a healthy, long-lasting foundation. From there, we rebuilt using premium systems designed specifically to prevent the issues they experienced before.

🔥 Warm Toes, Cozy Comfort

One of the standout features in this renovation is the heated tile floor. Not only does it make those early mornings infinitely more comfortable, but it also provides a steady, even warmth that makes the entire bathroom feel more inviting.

Paired with a beautiful herringbone tile pattern, the heated floors add a subtle luxury that elevates the space without taking attention away from the room’s heritage-inspired details.

🔧 A Shower Built to Last

A key part of the transformation was creating a shower that’s both beautiful and engineered for longevity. We installed a 1-piece stone shower base — incredibly easy to clean and designed to eliminate the risk of leaks — along with a full Wedi waterproofing system that carries a 10-year warranty. This ensures the homeowners will never have to deal with water damage or mold issues again.

We also upgraded the bath fan for better ventilation, helping exhaust moisture more efficiently and keeping the space dry and healthy.

To complete the look, we topped the new shower with a custom glass enclosure designed to match the warm bronze fixtures throughout the room. This final touch gives the shower an open, modern feel without compromising the classic charm.

🪵 Heritage Charm Meets Modern Craftsmanship

One element we knew had to stay was the hand-built hardwood vanity. Its craftsmanship and style perfectly complemented the character of the home. Instead of replacing it, we refreshed it with new paint, a quartz countertop, and upgraded lighting that highlights the natural wood detail while blending seamlessly with the rest of the updated design.

This approach — blending old and new — is what makes the finished bathroom feel so special. It respects the history of the home while bringing in modern amenities that make daily life more comfortable.

✨ The Final Result

The finished space is warm, functional, and completely revitalized. What used to be a dated, water-damaged bathroom is now a cozy, timeless retreat that fits the family’s needs — and their home’s character — perfectly.

If you’re thinking about renovating your own bathroom, whether to solve long-standing issues or simply refresh the look, we’d love to help you create a space that feels just as tailored and intentional.
