🏡 Project Craig: From Worn & Outdated to Functional and Refreshed

There’s a certain point every homeowner reaches — where the space just isn’t working anymore.

Maybe it’s the squeaky floors in the kitchen.
The lack of storage.
The dated finishes that never quite feel clean no matter how much effort goes into them.
Or the small signs of wear and tear that slowly turn into bigger concerns.

That’s exactly where these homeowners found themselves with Project Craig. Their home had good bones, but the kitchen, bathroom, and basement were all showing their age — both in function and appearance.

The goal wasn’t just to “update” things. It was to create a home that felt solid, functional, and enjoyable to live in again — without the daily frustrations.

🍳 A Kitchen Rebuilt for Everyday Living

The kitchen was taken right back to the plaster and subfloor, giving us the opportunity to rebuild it properly from the ground up.

One of the first issues we addressed was the floor. The original subfloor was made up of 1×6 diagonal boards, which had developed movement and squeaks over time. To fix this, we installed ½” OSB on top, fully glued and screwed, creating a rock-solid base that eliminated noise and gave the entire space a much sturdier feel.

From there, we updated all plumbing and mechanical systems, ensuring everything behind the walls was just as reliable as what you see on the surface.

The new kitchen features custom maple cabinetry, built with solid plywood boxes and solid maple doors and drawer fronts, all equipped with soft-close hardware throughout. Storage was a major upgrade here — including a large, fully customized pantry that replaced the old closet-style setup and dramatically improved functionality.

We finished the space with:

  • A durable resilient tile floor
  • A quartz countertop
  • A tiled backsplash
  • Crown molding and trim details that carry the cabinetry cleanly to the ceiling

The end result is a kitchen that not only looks beautiful — but feels solid, quiet, and designed for real everyday use.

🛁 A Bathroom That Feels Bigger, Brighter, and Built to Last

Like the kitchen, the bathroom was completely gutted back to the existing structure. This allowed us to update all plumbing and electrical systems and rebuild the space with longevity in mind.

We installed all new fixtures — tub, toilet, faucets, and finishes — giving the homeowners a fresh, worry-free space.

The tub surround was built using the Wedi waterproofing system, creating a fully sealed, long-lasting installation designed to perform for decades. This eliminates the risk of moisture issues behind the tile — a common problem in older bathrooms.

To improve the feel of the space, we removed a bulkhead over the tub, instantly making the room feel more open and spacious. We also flattened the old popcorn ceiling, bringing the entire room out of the 70s and into a much cleaner, modern aesthetic.

A custom vanity and linen tower were added to increase storage and improve daily functionality, while the same resilient tile flooring from the kitchen was carried into the bathroom for a cohesive look throughout the main floor.

🔧 A Basement Refresh That Ties It All Together

While the basement didn’t require a full gut, it still needed attention to bring it back to life.

We completed a full refresh with new flooring, trim, and paint, along with repairs to areas of water-damaged drywall.

To create continuity, we took the basement flooring a step further by crafting a custom stair nosing and finishing the stairs in the same material. This detail ties the entire lower level together and creates a seamless transition from top to bottom.

The Result: A Home That Feels Solid Again

What made this project so impactful wasn’t just the new finishes — it was how the home feels now.

No more squeaky floors.
No more outdated, worn-down spaces.
No more frustration with storage or layout.

Instead, the homeowners now have a space that feels:
✔ Solid underfoot
✔ Clean and updated
✔ Functional for everyday life
✔ Comfortable to live in and proud to show

This is what a well-executed renovation does — it removes the small daily annoyances and replaces them with comfort, confidence, and enjoyment.
